NIN mandatory for purchasing 50kg rice at N40,000 – FG

Welcome to the Rice Subsidy Program!

The Federal Government has officially launched the sale of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidised rate of N40,000 per 50kg bag. Only buyers with National Identification Numbers will be eligible to purchase the rice on a “one person, one bag” basis.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, highlighted the government’s efforts to alleviate the food crisis in Nigeria by providing subsidised rice to the citizens. The initiative aims to combat the high cost of food commodities and ensure fair distribution to vulnerable individuals.

To prevent fraud and ensure transparency in the process, a multi-disciplinary government task force will verify buyers using their NIN and phone numbers. Buyers will receive a unique code number and treasury receipt at the point of sale, which they can use to collect their rice at designated points.

Civil servants registered under the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) can also access the rice by presenting their details at sales points. The government’s goal is to inject 30,000MT of rice into the market to stabilize prices and provide affordable food options for Nigerians.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting initiative!
