Military solution not the answer in Gaza: German FM

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, following a meeting with her Israeli counterpart in Tel Aviv. Baerbock dismissed the notion that a military approach alone could solve the crisis, especially in light of recent events that have left six more dead captives in Gaza. The pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to negotiate a ceasefire with Hamas has intensified, as calls for peace grow.

Baerbock also expressed concern over hawkish statements by Israeli officials regarding the West Bank, following a deadly raid by the Israeli army. She warned against adopting the same aggressive approach in the West Bank, as it could further jeopardize Israel’s security.

The meeting between the foreign ministers comes at a crucial time, as tensions escalate in the region. Germany’s support for Israel has been unwavering, including arms exports worth millions of euros. However, Baerbock’s plea for peace and solidarity with Israel highlights the importance of finding a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict.
