South Sudanese president Salva Kiir recently returned from a successful visit to Beijing, where he participated in the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). During his time in China, Kiir engaged in high-level sessions focusing on strengthening cooperation between the two regions.
At the summit, Kiir joined African heads of state and government for an official dinner hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, where they discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties. The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Chol Mawut Ajongo, highlighted that the summit upgraded South Sudan’s relationship with China to a “strategic partnership.”
The 2024 FOCAC Summit had the theme “Joining Hands to Advance Modernisation and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.” Notable attendees included the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the United Nations Secretary-General, and 51 Heads of State and Government.
