The University of Juba Launches Institute for Japanese Studies with Japanese Government
The University of Juba, in partnership with the Japanese government’s Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), recently inaugurated the Institute for Japanese Studies. This institute aims to foster academic and diplomatic relationships between Japan and South Sudan through research and programs.
Prof Jacob Chol, the Director of the Institute of Japanese Studies, highlighted the significance of this initiative, emphasizing its role in promoting cultural exchange and academic collaboration between Japan and South Sudan. The institute will serve as a hub for Asian studies, focusing on the Far East and South East Asia.
The Japanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Toshio Odagiri, expressed pride in the longstanding cooperation between Japan and the University of Juba. He encouraged students to utilize the newly established Juba Japan Cultural Center for further exploration of Japanese studies. Tanaka Hiroyuki, Chief Representative of JICA in South Sudan, commended the institute for its commitment to enhancing knowledge sharing and cooperation through the JICA program.
This collaboration represents a significant step towards fostering mutual understanding and academic development between the two nations, setting the stage for future partnerships in education and research.
