Tokyo – Director of Middle East Division at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tosaka Sota, emphasized the longstanding partnership between Jordan and JICA, spanning over fifty years.
In a recent interview, Sota highlighted the commitment of JICA to continue collaborating with Jordan, citing a meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah II and the agency’s head during the King’s visit to Japan last year as evidence of the strong relationship.
Since the inception of their partnership in 1974, JICA has provided development aid to Jordan totaling $3.219 billion, encompassing soft loans, grants, and technical cooperation. Sota reiterated the agency’s dedication to sustaining this cooperation and acknowledged the positive impact of Japan-Jordan diplomatic relations, which are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year.
JICA’s initiatives in Jordan span various sectors such as water, energy, education, health, and tourism, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s development. The agency also recognizes Jordan’s humanitarian efforts in hosting refugees and pledges continued assistance in this regard.
Additionally, JICA is actively involved in projects related to artificial intelligence and the electricity interconnection between Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq. The agency’s overarching goal is to promote regional stability, support vulnerable groups, and enhance infrastructure for sustainable economic growth. Sota reaffirmed JICA’s commitment to Jordan’s prosperity and stability.
