Jharkhand govt OKs Rs 5 lakh medical insurance for lawyers

In a groundbreaking move, the Jharkhand cabinet has approved a Rs 5 lakh medical insurance scheme for lawyers in the state, benefiting around 30,000 legal professionals. Additionally, the pension for advocates aged 65 and above has been increased to Rs 14,000 per month.

The decision, made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, also includes a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for newly enrolled advocates. Jharkhand Advocate Welfare Fund Trustee Committee will receive a grant-in-aid of Rs 1.5 crore for this purpose.

Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan praised Jharkhand as the only state implementing such benefits for lawyers. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this move would empower aspiring advocates, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Other cabinet decisions include the construction of a hostel for tribal students and expanding financial assistance to women above 18 years under the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mainiya Samman Yojana. The state also plans to exit the centrally sponsored Fast Track Special Court Scheme while maintaining 22 Fast Track Special Courts for rape and POCSO cases.

This historic decision illustrates Jharkhand’s commitment to advocate welfare and justice system improvement.
