Bauchi plants 1 million trees to fight desertification

The Bauchi government has launched a one-million-tree planting campaign to combat desert encroachment and promote environmental sustainability in the state. Governor Bala Mohammed announced the initiative during the inauguration of the 2024 Tree Planting campaign with the theme ‘One Person – One Tree’ in Bauchi.

Emphasizing the importance of tree planting in mitigating the effects of climate change and supporting biodiversity, the governor called on citizens, communities, schools, and organizations to participate in the environmental initiative. The state government has already distributed tree seedlings to encourage involvement in the program.

Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Mr. Danlami Kawule, urged stakeholders in the environment sector to embrace tree planting for a healthier environment. The campaign aims to foster sustainable growth, development, and environmental protection.

With a commitment to environmental sustainability, the Bauchi government’s ‘One Person, One Tree’ campaign is a crucial step toward achieving the state’s environmental goals. It is vital for citizens to nurture the trees properly to ensure the program’s success.
