Bangladesh national anthem will not be changed: Religious Advisor Hossain

There is no plan to change the national anthem of Bangladesh, reassured the country’s Religious Affairs Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain. Amidst calls for change by Abdullahil Amaan Azmi, son of former Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ghulam Azam, Hossain stated that the interim government will avoid controversy.

Azmi had argued that the current anthem, imposed by India in 1971, does not truly represent an independent Bangladesh. He proposed forming a commission to select a new national anthem.

Additionally, Hossain emphasized the importance of friendly relations with India despite reports of attacks on the Bangladeshi cricket team. He condemned attacks on places of worship, promising prosecution under existing laws. In preparation for Durga Puja, local citizens and madrasa students will guard temples to prevent any potential harm.

Hossain also addressed attacks on the Hindu community, urging unity and denouncing discrimination based on religion.
