After a long-running defamation battle, Van Morrison and former Stormont Health Minister Robin Swann have settled their lawsuits over Covid-19 restrictions in Northern Ireland. The resolution came after successful mediation ahead of scheduled jury trials. Morrison accused Swann of being “very dangerous” in response to canceled gigs due to Covid restrictions.
Both lawsuits stemmed from conflicting views on Swann’s pandemic response, with Morrison also suing over an opinion piece in Rolling Stone magazine. The parties reached confidential terms, with acknowledgments of differing viewpoints and the handling of the pandemic.
Retired senior judge Donnell Deeney oversaw the mediation, leading to a mutually agreed settlement. The Department of Health expressed regret over the handling of the situation, in what was deemed as a fair outcome by Justice Colton.
The resolution showcases the importance of communication and understanding in high-profile disputes involving public figures, ultimately serving the public interest in avoiding costly legal battles.
