US to provide 0 million in new military assistance to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden is approving an additional $250 million in security assistance for Ukraine, despite concerns about escalating tensions with Russia. The Pentagon chief, Lloyd Austin, announced the aid package during talks at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, emphasizing the need to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities swiftly.

The new military aid is set to include ammunition for rocket launchers, artillery rounds, and anti-tank weapons. As Ukrainian forces advance into the Russian Kursk region, President Zelensky is urging for more weapons to combat Russian forces on Ukrainian soil.

During the meeting in Germany, Zelensky emphasized the importance of air defense systems and removing restrictions on using long-range Western weapons against Russian targets.

With uncertainty surrounding future funding, the US remains Ukraine’s biggest backer. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is also under pressure domestically for supporting Kiev amidst budget concerns. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which started over two years ago, has escalated into a full-fledged proxy war.
