Muslim American Group Urges DOJ to Investigate Israeli Killing of Turkish-American Activist

A Muslim American advocacy group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has called on the US Department of Justice to investigate the killing of Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi by Israeli forces in the West Bank. Eygi was shot dead during a protest against illegal Israeli settlements in Beita, Nablus.

CAIR’s Director of Government Affairs, Robert S. McCaw, sent a letter to the Justice Department requesting an investigation and prosecution of Israeli officials responsible for violent crimes against Palestinian-Americans. Eyewitnesses reported that Eygi was fatally shot in the head while volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement to protect Palestinian farmers.

The killing of Eygi has sparked outrage, with residents of Beita holding weekly protests to oppose illegal Israeli settlements on Mount Sbeih. The victim was a volunteer with the Fazaa campaign, which supports Palestinian farmers against violations by Israeli settlers.

CAIR is demanding immediate action from the US government, emphasizing the need for an independent investigation rather than relying on Israeli authorities. The organization expects the Justice Department to act swiftly in response to this tragic event.
