In a recent donation ceremony in Bor, the President of the Jonglei State High Court, John Yel Aleu, expressed his gratitude to UNDP for their ongoing commitment to strengthening the rule of law and promoting human rights in the state. The donation included essential materials such as record books, file folders, raincoats, and gumboots, all crucial for maintaining comprehensive and accurate court records.
Aleu emphasized the importance of a strong recording system for court records that can be preserved for future generations. He also acknowledged previous support from UNDP, such as providing vehicles for inmate transport and office operations, and urged other partners to assist in renovating the court offices damaged during the 2013 crisis.
UNDP Security Specialist Peruth Karungi explained that the donation was part of the Access to Justice, Security, and Human Rights Strengthening Program, aiming to enhance the capacities of justice and security institutions in Jonglei State. The provision of file folders categorized by crime types will help track cases efficiently and reduce case backlogs, leading to a more effective administration of justice and a decrease in violence.
