Ukraine’s quest for long-range weapons, with increased US aid pledged

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is calling on Western allies to support Kyiv in using long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory, in a bid to pressure Russia to end the war. Zelensky made his case at a gathering in Germany, highlighting the urgent need for such capabilities as Ukrainian forces face a tough battle against Russian troops.

Zelensky’s plea for support has already garnered positive responses from countries like Lithuania and Estonia. Despite previous restrictions on the use of long-range weapons deep inside Russia, Zelensky is pushing to challenge Moscow’s “red lines” in pursuit of peace.

On the ground, Ukrainian forces have made gains in the Kursk region, but Russian aggression continues to threaten Ukrainian cities and civilians. The US has pledged an additional $250 million in military aid to bolster Ukraine’s defense efforts, while Germany and Canada have also committed to supporting Kyiv with weaponry.

As the conflict intensifies, Zelensky remains determined to present a “victory plan” to President Biden during his upcoming visit to the US. Despite facing significant challenges, Ukraine’s resolve to defend its territory remains strong, as it seeks to turn the tide against Russian forces.
