Turkish-American Activist Fatally Shot in West Bank
Turkish-American rights activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was tragically killed by Israeli military gunfire during unrest in the Palestinian village of Beita near Nablus. The incident occurred during a security operation where IDF forces fired at a key instigator throwing stones, with Eygi caught in the crossfire. U.S. Ambassador Jack Lew expressed condolences and stated that Washington is working to determine the circumstances.
Turkey condemned the incident as “murder,” emphasizing that Eygi was also a Turkish citizen. Eygi had been participating in a protest against settlements in the West Bank. She was transported to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus in critical condition but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Eygi had been volunteering with the “Fazaa” campaign, which supports Palestinian farmers.
