Performance review of regulatory bodies like Sebi to be conducted by PAC

The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has chosen 161 subjects for examination, including a performance review of regulatory bodies like SEBI. The panel will also focus on levies and regulations of fees on public infrastructure and utilities. The reconstituted PAC, chaired by senior Congress MP KC Venugopal, will scrutinize money spent by the government as per the demand of Parliament. The upcoming meeting on September 10 will include a briefing from the Audit and oral evidence from the Ministry of Jal Shakti on the ‘Performance Audit on National Rural Drinking Water Programme.’

Among the subjects chosen ‘suo motu’ is the performance review of regulatory bodies, allowing scrutiny of SEBI, RBI, IRDA, and PFRDA. This selection comes at a time when SEBI chief Madhabi Buch is facing allegations of conflict of interest. Other subjects chosen for examination include reforms in the banking and insurance sector, centrally sponsored welfare schemes, and policy measures in the energy sector.

The PAC will also focus on the construction of Indo-China border roads, accidents of ships and submarines in the Indian Navy, and national projects based on CAG reports. Stay updated on the latest developments as the PAC delves into these crucial subjects.
