Breaking News: National Assembly Passes Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024
In a groundbreaking development, the National Assembly of Pakistan has approved the “Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024” with a majority vote. The bill, spearheaded by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Danyal Chaudhary, aims to regulate public gatherings to ensure they do not disrupt public order.
Law Minister Azam Tarar emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during public assemblies and processions, addressing concerns about the increasing number of demonstrations causing inconvenience to citizens. Under this new law, the District Commissioner (DC) will play a crucial role in reviewing security situations and granting permissions for gatherings in designated areas.
The legislation also grants the DC authority to ban gatherings that pose threats to public safety or national security. Participants in unauthorized gatherings could face severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines. Furthermore, the police are empowered to disperse gatherings that disrupt public order, even using force if necessary.
This law aims to ensure public safety, national security, and orderly conduct of public events in the nation’s capital, marking a significant step towards maintaining peace and stability in the country.
