Although the documents disappeared from Grassley’s Senate page, details about the Iranian-backed plot emerged, involving a Pakistani man named Asif Merchant and his handler Mehardad Yousef. The plot targeted various political figures, including Haley and Biden, with Trump as the primary objective following his role in Soleimani’s death.
In response to these revelations, Grassley emphasized the importance of public trust in federal agencies and vowed to pursue transparency for the American people. The FBI, however, criticized the disclosure, citing concerns about jeopardizing national security and undermining ongoing investigations.
