German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is set to make his first journey to Central Asia, visiting Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on September 15-17. The purpose of the visit is to enhance cooperation with the leaders of both nations and discuss bilateral and foreign policy matters.
On September 17, Scholz will participate in the second “Central Asia-Germany” (5+1) summit in Kazakhstan. This summit follows the success of the first meeting in Berlin last year, which led to the signing of a strategic regional partnership program.
During the inaugural Central Asia-Germany (5+1) leaders’ summit in 2023, leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan engaged with Chancellor Scholz and President Steinmeier, along with prominent German business figures. The discussions focused on regional responses to global challenges such as security, economic resilience, sustainable development, climate change, and peace.
