The UN Security Council Addresses the Treatment of Hostages Held by Hamas

The recent session at the UN Security Council shed light on the harrowing experiences of hostages held by Hamas, particularly children. Dr. Efrat Baron Harlev briefed the council on the condition of children who had been held captive, detailing the trauma they endured during their captivity.

UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo condemned Hamas for the murder of hostages and praised efforts like the polio vaccination campaign in Gaza. She also highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and expressed hope for potential negotiations in Doha.

Yuli Novak, CEO of the NGO B’Tselem, provided insights into the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, emphasizing the need for balance in addressing the situation.

Ambassador Danny Danon presented testimonies of abuse suffered by hostages, unveiling the atrocities committed by Hamas. He called on the Security Council to take strong action against Hamas and reiterated Israel’s commitment to bringing all hostages home.
