Cop killer sentenced to life plus 45 years in prison

An Orange Farm resident, Jonas Jabulani Tsotetsi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Pretoria high court for the murder of police officer Norman Nwasombana Muhlari during a robbery nine years ago. Tsotetsi was also sentenced to 45 years for multiple counts of robbery, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition.

The robbery took place at Orange Farm train station, where Tsotetsi and his accomplices overpowered security guards, attempted to access the money vault, and ultimately killed Officer Muhlari. Tsotetsi fled to Mozambique after the crime but was arrested in 2019. Despite initially pleading not guilty, he later admitted liability during the trial.

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of Tsotetsi’s offenses and the lack of remorse shown. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting SAPS officers, who play a vital role in society.

This verdict sends a strong message that the NPA condemns violence against law enforcement and values the safety of officers like Officer Muhlari.
