Climate change causing human rights abuses – Azerbaijan Judges Union

Climate Change and Human Rights: The Legal Perspective

In a recent statement, Sanan Hajiyev, Deputy Chairperson of the Union of Judges of Azerbaijan, emphasized the link between climate change and human rights violations. He highlighted the importance of living in a healthy environment and how climate change can impact human health and well-being.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan declared 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” and announced the hosting of COP29 in November. As part of these initiatives, a conference on “Law and Climate” is being organized by the Supreme Court and the Union of Judges of Azerbaijan in Baku.

The conference aims to raise awareness among legal professionals about the intersection of climate change and human rights. Experts from nearly twenty countries will discuss various topics such as international legal frameworks, climate change and human rights challenges, and the role of judicial systems in addressing climate-related disputes.

With the participation of key figures in the legal and environmental sectors, the conference is expected to be a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge and strategies to combat climate change and protect human rights.
