CEPO and UNMISS turn over building and farm to Jur River

UNMISS and CEPO Hand over Dormitory and Farm in Marial-Bai Payam

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have officially handed over a dormitory and a farm in Marial-Bai Payam of Jur River County to Western Bahr el-Ghazal State. The facility and farm, costing $45,998, were completed after six months of construction and received by the National Prison Services and State Government.

The dormitory includes two self-contained dormitories with a full solar system, security lights, washrooms, and a water yard. This facility aims to decongest the Wau Central Prison, while the farm will support agricultural expansion.

Western Bahr el-Ghazal Governor, Sarah Cleto Rial, expressed gratitude to CEPO and UNMISS, emphasizing the importance of community and prison service administration teamwork in maintaining the facility. Jur River County Commissioner, James Ernest Makuei, highlighted the need for road construction in the area and underscored the significance of similar development initiatives in neighboring regions.

Area MP, James Giir Wol, emphasized the necessity of additional facilities to address overcrowding at Wau Central Prison. This collaborative effort between organizations and local authorities signifies a positive step towards improving infrastructure and community well-being in South Sudan.
