Meanwhile, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Syrsky reported that Ukrainian forces have halted the Russian advance in the Pokrovsk sector, forcing Russia to transfer soldiers to the Kursk region and weakening its capabilities on other fronts. Ukraine’s unexpected offensive in Kursk has drawn Russian forces into the area, creating a buffer zone to prevent Russian shelling and push Moscow into negotiations.
While Ukraine aims to hold the captured territory in Kursk, annexation is not the goal. US officials estimate that Russia will need 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers to retake the region. The situation remains tense as Ukraine continues its defensive efforts against Russian aggression.
