Devastating floods in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe have claimed the lives of twenty individuals since early August, according to the Chairman, Alhaji Babagana Ibrahim. Most of the casualties were trapped under collapsed mud houses. The disaster destroyed over 10,000 homes and farmlands in 200 communities, impacting villages like Misilli, Lawan Musa, and Dala.
About 2,000 displaced persons are seeking refuge in Gashua’s three camps – Goodluck, Zango 2, and Babuje. Despite limited resources, the council has been providing food for the affected individuals. Sen. Ahmed Lawa donated N10 million to the victims, and the state is distributing non-food items.
Ibrahim urged the federal government, through NEMA, to assist the growing number of displaced persons, as the situation surpasses the council’s capacities. Immediate aid is crucial as the population of those affected continues to rise.
