Building Bridges: South Sudan and Zhejiang Strengthen Economic Ties

As the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit approaches, South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit embarked on a journey to Zhejiang Province in eastern China to bolster economic and political relations. The visit, which took place on September 2, highlighted the commitment to enhancing collaboration between the two regions.

During the trip, President Kiir emphasized South Sudan’s abundant natural resources and investment potential, showcasing opportunities for cooperation in various sectors such as agriculture, mining, trade, transport, and tourism. The South Sudan-Zhejiang Economic, Investment and Trade Forum was launched, symbolizing a new chapter in economic partnership.

Zhejiang, known for its economic prowess and innovative strategies, is keen on expanding ties with South Sudan within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework. The province’s collaboration with African nations, including educational exchanges and economic cooperation, reinforces its commitment to fostering China-Africa relations. The upcoming 2024 China-Africa Trade and Cultural Forum will further solidify Zhejiang’s role in promoting international cooperation.
