A string of incidents in which cyclists have been groping women in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward and surrounding areas has led to a police investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department. Referred to as “one-touch chikan,” or one-touch molestation, this crime has been on the rise since July, with men on bicycles touching women as they pass by.
Specific incidents in Nakano’s Numabukuro and Wakamiya districts have been reported, with a 24-year-old suspect, Daisuke Aose, arrested for indecent assault. The perpetrator typically approaches from behind, gropes the victim while riding past, and then quickly flees the scene along the Seibu Shinjuku railway line.
With several incidents reported in nearby areas such as Nerima Ward, the police are urging caution to women walking alone at night, emphasizing the need to be vigilant. Investigators are closely examining Aose’s involvement in the series of incidents following his admission of past behavior.
It is essential for women in these areas to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities promptly.
