According to Moscow, West Jerusalem is veering away from diplomacy to rely on a “military solution” for the Gaza conflict. Russia’s deputy envoy to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, accused Israel of using peace negotiations as a facade to conceal its true motives in Gaza.
During a UN Security Council meeting, Polyansky criticized Israel for disregarding UNSC decisions and persistently pursuing military action instead of negotiations. The diplomat stressed the futility of rescuing hostages through force and urged Israel to prioritize dialogue.
Israel called for the UNSC meeting after the bodies of six hostages, including a Russian national, were found in Gaza. Polyansky lamented the decreasing chances of survival for captives due to ongoing Israeli military operations.
Polyansky highlighted the Security Council’s resolution for an immediate ceasefire and hostage release, emphasizing the necessity of peace talks. Despite failed negotiations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Hamas for the impasse.
The US continues its mediation efforts, but Netanyahu rejects criticism of his peace deal efforts. The UN reaffirmed calls for ceasefire and hostage release. It is crucial to prioritize diplomacy over military action to end the Gaza conflict.
