Putin: What would happen to Europe if Russia responded to attacks on nuclear power plants?
Attacks on Kursk and Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plants are very dangerous terrorist attacks, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

“These are very dangerous terrorist attacks. One can only imagine what will happen if we respond in kind, what will happen to the entire part of this Europe,” Putin said.
Putin emphasized that pushing units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) out of the Kursk region is a sacred duty for the Russian Armed Forces, with ongoing fighting since August 6. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported instability at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, citing violations of nuclear security. Drones regularly attack the plant, with blame shifting between Moscow and Kyiv.
- The Kursk NPP in Kurchatov has four RBMK-1000 power units, generating over 50% of the Black Earth Region’s capacity.
- The Zaporizhzhya NPP, Europe’s largest by capacity and the world’s third largest plant, is in the Zaporizhzhya region with six VVER-1000 power units, now under Russian control after the military operation in Ukraine.
