Minister clarifies gas tariff rise: Sets the record straight.

Minister for Petroleum Denies Reports of Gas Price Hike

Minister for Petroleum, Musaddik Malik, refuted claims of a potential increase in gas prices, stating that no such decision has been made. He emphasized the government’s effort to introduce a comprehensive package to encourage power consumption and reduce capacity payments through a seasonal tariff.

Additionally, Malik dismissed reports of Iran imposing an $18 billion penalty on Pakistan for delays in the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project. He clarified that Iran has not mentioned any such penalty, and after reviewing all documents, he found no evidence of the alleged amount.

The recent gas shortage in Balochistan has led to price surges in the region, affecting daily life for residents. The suspension of gas supply has prompted long queues at LPG shops as people struggle to access the essential resource, resulting in increased prices set by shopkeepers to capitalize on the crisis.
