Lagos Inks MOU with Chinese Firm for Green Line Rail

The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step towards the realization of the Green Line Rail mass transit project by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese firm. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this development, emphasizing the importance of the new Metro line in transforming the transport landscape of Lagos.

The Green Line, spanning 68km from the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, will connect with the existing Blue Line at Marina and serve key areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ajah. It is projected to carry over 500,000 passengers daily at launch, with potential to increase to over a million as demand grows.

With the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and China Harbour Engineering Company leading the design, financing, and operation of the Green Line, it is set to redefine public transport in Lagos. This project, along with other planned rail systems like the Red Line, forms a crucial part of the city’s Strategic Transport Masterplan for a faster, efficient, and connected Lagos.
