The Kannada film industry has raised concerns about sexual harassment within the industry and has demanded the government to form a committee to investigate the issue. A delegation, led by social activist Vijayamma and members of Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE), submitted a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with signatures from 153 industry workers. The Chief Minister has considered the plea and promised to discuss the matter with the delegation.
Actress Sanjjanaa Galrani also met separately with the Chief Minister to advocate for setting up a women artists association in the industry to raise awareness about basic rights. Women and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar reassured the industry that the government will take complaints of sexual harassment seriously and will not tolerate instances of casting couch.
