ICC prosecutor defends arrest warrant for Netanyahu: Law must be applied

The International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, has taken a bold stance by filing an arrest warrant request for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This move aims to demonstrate that the court is not merely a tool of power, but a platform for justice against alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The request, which also includes Hamas leaders, is in response to their roles in the conflict during Israel’s war on Gaza and the subsequent Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in October. Despite warnings of backlash, Khan is steadfast in his belief that all nations should be held accountable equally for alleged war crimes, regardless of their alliances.

Addressing concerns of politicization, Khan emphasized the ICC’s commitment to impartiality in applying the law. He rejected claims of antisemitism, asserting that the focus remains on upholding justice and not succumbing to false criticisms.
