The United States is set to accuse Russia of attempting to influence the 2024 presidential election through online platforms, targeting American voters with disinformation. According to CNN, Russian state media network RT will be a key focus of the allegations.
The news broke just before Attorney General Merrick Garland was scheduled to address the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force. A Russian lawmaker dismissed the accusations as “pure rubbish,” emphasizing Moscow’s indifference to the election’s outcome.
While the Russian embassy did not immediately respond, RT responded mockingly, citing their consistent interference in US elections. The Justice Department has previously warned of Russian interference, with intelligence reports indicating a preference for former President Trump.
In addition to Russia, the US government has accused Iran of cyber operations targeting both Trump and Kamala Harris campaigns. China, on the other hand, is reported to be impersonating US voters on social media to sow discord.
