Pakistan is pushing for sanctions relief from the United States in order to complete the gas pipeline project with Iran, according to a press briefing by Matthew Miller. Despite ongoing sanctions on Iran, the US government continues to prioritize helping Pakistan address its energy shortage by supporting the gas pipeline project.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that Islamabad does not need consultation from others for important projects and is in contact with Tehran regarding the pipeline project. The estimated 45 billion Pakistani rupee project will allow Pakistan to import cost-effective gas from Iran, benefiting both nations.
Officials from both countries are working on constructing an 81-kilometer pipeline along their common border to facilitate the gas trade. Despite legal challenges, Pakistan remains committed to resolving any issues through friendly consultations, emphasizing the importance of the joint project for energy security.
