Ukraine’s parliament made significant changes on Wednesday, voting to remove several officials from their positions amidst a wave of resignations. This marks the largest government reshuffle since the country’s conflict with Russia began.
According to Ukrainian lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the Verkhovna Rada approved the resignations of Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Environment Protection and Natural Resources Minister Ruslan Strilets, and Justice Minister Denys Maliuska.
Zheleznyak reported that the votes to approve the resignations ranged from 241 to 249. However, the resignations of two other officials, Vitaliy Koval and Iryna Vereshchuk, were not approved due to insufficient votes.
The resignation request of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba was postponed for further consideration. These changes come as Kyiv undergoes its most significant government restructuring since the conflict began on Feb. 24, 2022.
Overall, the parliament’s decisions reflect a period of transition and uncertainty in Ukrainian politics, signaling potential shifts in leadership and policy direction.
