Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Resigns in Government Reshuffle

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has resigned amidst a major government reshuffle ordered by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The move comes at a crucial juncture in the 30-month war against Russia, with more resignations and appointments expected in the coming days.

Mr Kuleba, known as a prominent figure representing Ukraine internationally, was a key player in lobbying for military and political support. President Zelensky emphasized the need for these changes to achieve the necessary results for Ukraine as the country heads into the cold autumn and winter seasons.

Russian forces are advancing in eastern Ukraine while Ukrainian troops have made strategic incursions into Russia’s Kursk region. Despite escalating tensions, Mr Zelensky is set to present a “victory plan” to US President Joe Biden during his upcoming visit to the United States.

The Kremlin has stated that government changes in Ukraine will not impact peace negotiations, although the two sides remain far apart in their objectives. The ongoing reshuffle is expected to see new appointments approved swiftly, including a potential nomination for a new foreign minister.
