Bobi Wine Discharged from Hospital After Tear-Gas Incident
Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has been released from the hospital following a clash with police where he was hit in the leg by a tear-gas canister.
Mayor Erias Lukwago confirmed that Wine underwent surgery to remove fragments of the canister and is now stable.
Wine’s party, the National Unity Platform, condemned the incident as an attack on his life, reflecting the ongoing tensions between the opposition and President Museveni’s government.
Lawyer George Musisi suggested that police intentionally targeted Wine during the confrontation, leading to his injury.
The incident has raised concerns about political repression in Uganda, with several instances of government crackdowns on dissenting voices in recent months.
As Wine recuperates, the police have promised to investigate the altercation, but the incident has already sparked debates about the state of democracy in the country.
