Starlink Agrees to Ban X in Brazil
Satellite internet service provider Starlink has agreed to ban social media platform X nationwide in Brazil as ordered by the Supreme Federal Court (STF). This decision comes after STF Justice Alexandre De Moraes froze Starlink’s assets in an effort to collect fines from X for failing to comply with previous court decisions.
Despite the asset freeze, Starlink stated that it will abide by the court’s order to block access to X in Brazil while pursuing legal recourse. SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell has warned against travel to Brazil amidst the legal dispute.
Brazil’s Telecommunications agency Anatel was tasked with enforcing the ban, with Starlink facing consequences for non-compliance. The country’s Communications Minister emphasized the importance of obeying court rulings, highlighting national sovereignty and democracy.
