The US government seized a presidential jet used by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, claiming it was illegally exported from the US. The Dassault Falcon 900EX aircraft was seized in the Dominican Republic and transferred to Florida based on US export laws. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland stated the plane was bought through a shell company for $13 million.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the US for ignoring international legal norms. Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto called the seizure “blatant piracy.” The US claims the plane was illegally delivered to Venezuela in April 2023 for $13 million.
Venezuela warned of legal action against US policies. The US Commerce Department emphasized that planes benefiting sanctioned officials cannot escape consequences. Gil described the seizure as “criminal practice” and condemned US unilateral coercive measures worldwide.
