A repentant female Boko Haram member, Fatima Musa, shared her regret at a community dialogue in Borno where she confessed to shredding her National Certificate in Education during her radical days. The event, organized by the Allamin Foundation, focused on peaceful coexistence and understanding between the repentants and community leaders of Mafa with support from the UKaid.
Musa, along with other deradicalised women, expressed remorse for being misled into joining the insurgency at a young age. She acknowledged the value of education and the teachings of Islam in promoting peace and tolerance, highlighting her wish to reconcile with her father who is currently in a neighboring country.
Another repentant, Bintu, sought forgiveness from the community and emphasized the importance of support for those trying to rebuild their lives after leaving the insurgency. Residents of Mafa urged the government to provide more empowerment support for victims and repentants to facilitate their reintegration and transition to normal life.
The dialogue also featured a lecture on Islamic principles of peace and reconciliation delivered by Sheikh Ali Mustapha, shedding light on the importance of peaceful coexistence.
