The Commissioner of Western Bahr el Ghazal State’s Raja County revealed that some payams along the Sudanese border have been overtaken by Sudan’s Rapid Support forces (RSF), who are now exploiting mineral resources, particularly gold. The RSF and Sudan Armed Forces have been in conflict since April 15, 2023, with RSF seizing control of areas like Radom, Kafia Kinji, Sungu, and Hofra Al Nahas in Raja County.
Commissioner Addison Arkangelo Musa highlighted the illegal occupation by RSF in South Sudanese territory and the looting of valuable resources. The county authorities have alerted the state and national governments to take action to reclaim these areas. However, SSPDF commander Brigadier General James Par Riek denied the presence of RSF in Raja County, stating that Sudanese-controlled areas like Radom are not under their responsibility.
Gen. Par emphasized South Sudan’s strict laws against armed groups entering the country, pledging to disarm them and treat them as civilians. The situation underscores the need for coordinated efforts to address territorial violations and protect South Sudan’s resources.
