Tragedy struck Nagaland as heavy rains triggered landslides, claiming the lives of six individuals, including a woman. The disaster led to a complete blockage of communication on NH-29 between Dimapur and Kohima, with a portion of the highway being washed away.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio confirmed the tragic incident and urged the public to adhere to official updates regarding the crucial highway’s status. The alternative Pimla-Mhainamtsi route was also impacted by mudslides and landslides, causing concern among residents regarding essential supplies.
In response to the situation, panic buying ensued in Kohima, fearing shortages, but the district administration assured ample commodity supplies. CM Rio reassured the public through a social media post, indicating that efforts are underway to restore communication on NH-29 with assistance from the central government and NHIDCL.
As the region grapples with the aftermath of the landslides, the state government and authorities are focused on mitigating the impact and ensuring the well-being of residents. The incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerable conditions in hilly terrains during the monsoon season.
