The National Economic Council (NEC) has directed all states to submit details of damages caused by recent flooding in the country by Monday. Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa revealed this information after the 144 NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa Abuja, presided over by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
NEMA data shows lives lost, farmlands damaged, and people displaced by floods nationwide. The flood committee has been reconstituted, with governors of Kogi, Oyo, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Bayelsa, and Jigawa states among new members.
Chairman of the council emphasized the Monday deadline for states to submit damage details for appropriate support. Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State highlighted the devastating impact on the North East, calling for collaboration in ensuring food security and agricultural planning.
Stronger collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and sub-nationals is necessary for comprehensive action. The council established governance structures to address the devastation caused by flooding.
