NDP Rips Up Deal Supporting Trudeau, Opening Door to Early Elections
The New Democrat Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh surprised everyone by announcing the termination of the Supply and Confidence Agreement with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority government. This move has opened the door to early elections, as Singh expressed his disappointment in the Liberal party’s failure to deliver on promises.
The agreement, which was set to expire in June 2025, allowed the Liberals to govern without fear of a non-confidence vote in exchange for supporting NDP programs. Despite some initiatives being implemented, Singh believes Trudeau hasn’t done enough for Canadians and has given in to corporate greed.
Trudeau, who was focused on programs like the National Food School Program and cheaper daycare for children, responded by saying he is not focused on politics at the moment. With the Liberals falling behind in polls and Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party gaining momentum, Singh is confident that the NDP can defeat the Conservatives in an election where the Liberals may struggle.
