Exciting News from Kazakhstan! The Majilis of the Parliament has given its initial approval to the draft law “On Protection of Consumer Rights” along with some amendments.
The key highlight of this bill is the introduction of an Ombudsperson for consumer protection who will be responsible for advising consumers, taking legal action on their behalf, and performing other relevant duties.
Appointed by the head of the Ministry of Trade and Integration, the Ombudsperson will serve a four-year term voluntarily, without any payment. Additionally, the law aims to prohibit the inclusion of unfair conditions in contracts that undermine consumer rights and interests, with over ten such conditions identified.
If such conditions are found in contracts, they will be deemed invalid, and the court will confirm their nullity. This move is a significant step towards ensuring consumer protection and safeguarding their rights in Kazakhstan.
