Government Employees Warned Against Expressing Political and Religious Views on Social Media
The government has reiterated its stance on prohibiting employees from using social media to express political or religious opinions and sharing unauthorized information with the media. The circular issued by the Establishment Division referred to the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules 1964, emphasizing the need for employees to refrain from actions that could embarrass the government.
Government employees have been reminded of previous circulars dating back to 2020 and 2021, which restricted them from appearing on media platforms without official permission. Violation of these rules may result in disciplinary action under Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.
The circular also warned against engaging in activities that do not align with the standards of official conduct on social media platforms. Employees are directed to maintain impartiality and avoid expressing political affiliations or engaging in business promotions without proper authorization.
While constructive use of social media is encouraged, employees are advised to refrain from sharing misleading information. The government emphasizes the need to continuously monitor and remove any offensive or inappropriate content on official social media platforms.
