Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi’s Visit to Turkey Marks Historic Reconciliation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi made a historic visit to Ankara to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, marking the first visit by an Egyptian head of state to Turkey in 12 years. The meeting comes after a decade of tensions between the two countries and is expected to formalize their reconciliation.

During the visit, el-Sissi and Erdogan are set to discuss diplomatic matters, commercial ties, and regional issues. They are expected to sign around 20 agreements on trade, energy, defense, tourism, health, culture, and education. The leaders will also explore future cooperation on renewable energy and liquefied natural gas, with plans to increase bilateral trade from $10 billion to $15 billion.

Among the key topics of discussion will be the situation in regions around the world, including the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Turkey has been supportive of Cairo’s efforts to broker a cease-fire in the region. The two nations have also resumed appointing ambassadors and engaged in commercial operations, despite a history of hostile relations stemming from events in 2013.
