Protests Erupt in Mukalla Over Deteriorating Living Conditions
In Hadramout, anger boiled over as protesters in Mukalla took to the streets in response to the collapse of electricity service and rising prices. The city, under the control of Emirati factions, has been facing a multitude of challenges, including fuel shortages and transportation disruptions.
Dozens of protesters blocked main streets in Al-Dees area, demanding immediate action to address the deteriorating living conditions. The situation escalated as streets were blocked with stones and burning tires, further exacerbating the chaos in the city.
In a dramatic turn of events, the head of Basweed district of Mukalla resigned in response to the catastrophic collapse of service conditions. The unrest has spread to Hadramout University, where students continue to strike over increased registration fees.
Coastal districts have also been affected, with demonstrations in Shihr, Ghayl Bawazir, and Brom Mayfa’a highlighting the frustration over electricity services and the exploitation of natural resources by Emirati companies.
As tensions mount, Mukalla remains a city on the edge, grappling with widespread discontent and a sense of uncertainty.
