There are indications that the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and his loyalists will boycott a stakeholders’ meeting called by Abia State Governor Alex Otti. Despite the party’s presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, supporting Otti’s decision, Abure and his National Working Committee members refuse to attend.
A source close to Abure’s camp revealed that they were instructed not to participate in the meeting, questioning Otti’s authority to convene it without Abure’s approval. Efforts to confirm this with the LP National Publicity Secretary and NWC members were unsuccessful.
Abure had previously clashed with Otti over the governor’s attempt to dissolve party executives, leading to the current standoff. The planned meeting on September 4 is expected to include key party members like Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Abia deputy governor, and members of the National Working Committee. The power struggle within the party continues to unfold as both sides refuse to back down.
