Uruguayan Minister Promotes Dairy Exports at Brazilian Agro-Show
Uruguayan Agriculture and Food Minister, Fernando Mattos, attended the Expointer agro show in Rio Grande do Sul to promote dairy exports to Brazil. He emphasized Uruguay’s role as a reliable and long-standing supplier in the Brazilian market within the Mercosur framework. Despite recent restrictions lowering export volumes, Mattos defended Uruguay’s stance, denying allegations of predatory practices.
Showing solidarity with the local farmers affected by flooding, Uruguay showcased a prominent pavilion at Expointer 2024. Minister Mattos highlighted the similarities between Rio Grande do Sul’s agriculture sector and Uruguay’s, reinforcing the shared commitment to mutual support and collaboration.
Last year, Uruguay exported $855 million worth of dairy products, with Brazil accounting for a significant portion. Mattos’s presence at the agro show signaled Uruguay’s dedication to strengthening trade ties and standing by its Brazilian counterparts, amidst regional farming challenges.
